WORS Trail Run Series will be taking a new approach for 2010 as its organization will revert to the roots of the mountain bike series. Events will be organized and run on the local level with race directors for each event versus having a series director in charge of all of the events. The central administration will remain to provide a website, pre-registration, series scoring and guidelines, results posting, and services to the individual events (timing, medals, numbers, etc.). With this retro approach we hope to improve local promotion and participation and lower entry fees. Our current goal is to use a $10 pre and $15 day of registration fee. T-shirt options and merchandise prizes would be up to the local organizing group of each event. There would be no series registration and anyone who enters an event would be scored in the series overalls.

Our tentative schedule includes:
Iola Trail Mix – May 2 – Iola Winter Sports Area, Iola, WI
Nine Mile Forrest Chase - May 30 – Nine Mile Forest, Wausau, Wi
Firecracker Off-Road – July 11 – Lowes Creek Trails, Eau Claire, WI
Crystal Ridge Scramble – July 25 – Crystal Ridge, Franklin, WI
White Tail Ridge Trail Run – August 8 – White Tail Ridge, River Falls, WI
Reforestation Ramble – August 22 – Reforestation Camp, Suamico, WI
Treadhead Trail Run - September 12 – Grand Geneva Resort, Lake Geneva, WI

WORS is looking for an individual interest in heading up the WORS Trail Run Series. Citing expanding work and family commitments Tracey Ubl has informed WORS of her decision to resign as the director of the trail run series. This leaves the 2010 series in limbo and the decision on whether or not they will be a series is dependent upon a successful search for a new director.

If you are an individual with the time and interest in directing the series, please contact me at don@wors.org or phone (715) 592-5095 and we can discuss the details.
Don Edberg

Crisp autumn temps and clear skies greeted runners who came out to participate in the Evergreen Harrier Classic on October 11th in Sheboygan. The colorful and fast trails made for a perfect conclusion to the WORS Trail Run Series. Thank you to all of the new and familiar faces for spending the morning with us!

Congratulations to our series participants and winners! We applaud your dedication and competitive spirit, and look forward to seeing you next season.

Check back in December for a finalized Trail Run schedule for 2010. We are considering a couple of venue changes; if you have a venue (on the WORS bike circuit) that you would like us to look into, please send an e-mail.

We are also going to look at making a few changes to the structure and execution of the Trail Run Series, and would welcome any suggestions from our series runners! Thank you to those who have already offered up some great ideas for next year. We may be coming to you looking for additional input in the near future.

Finally, a special thank you to our series sponsor, TEVA for the numerous shoe gift certificates and a lot of great schwag that a multitude of runners were able to take advantage of. Also, thank you to our event sponsor RUNAWAY SHOES of Oshkosh and Green Bay for gift certificates and other appreciated schwag items! We hope to see them next year!!

Have a wonderful winter and we’ll see you on the trails in the spring!

Tracey Ubl and Lynn Le Roy

This is a “must do” run for all who enjoy the very essence of the sport. Winding trails will carry you through beautiful pinewoods and varying terrain. The course is a scenic mixture of single and double track, and is one of the more spectator-friendly venues in the series.

This race will draw an exceptional field of runners as it is the final event of the WORS Trail Running Series for 2009, as well as the
WISCONSIN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. Runners of all abilities are encouraged to participate!!

RACER PERKS:
• FREE TECH TEE to the first 30 pre-registered
• Custom medals to the 1st and 2nd finishers (overall and age group)
• FREE POST RACE MEAL to all participants
• Door prizes and schwag items

The series awards will take place after the race award ceremony. We
look forward to seeing our series runners take home their well-deserved plaques. We will also be giving away other great items to
show our appreciation for the largest supporters of our series!!

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday the 11th!

Re-Cap: Treadfest Trail Run

Thank you to all who participated in the 1st annual trail run at the Grand Geneva Resort. The weather cooperated yet once again to offer a beautiful fall day for hitting the trails. This course proved to be one of the more technical venues in our series, and all runners appeared to enjoy the challenge.
We would like to extend our thanks to Club Tread Cycling and all of the volunteers that contributed to a successful debut event.

A perfect day greeted all who arrived to enjoy the trails around the Crystal Ridge Ski Area in Franklin on August 2nd. For the first time in years, runners were able to enjoy some of the Alpha Trail system adjoining the ski area. Fast (and dry!) conditions allowed for the posting of some very fast times, and fun was had by all (regardless of the random mutterings heard during the final climb to the finish)! Thank you to all who came out to enjoy the great weather and trail system.
